Job Description
Citizens Insurance is seeking a Complex Medical (PIP) Claims Legal Nurse in our Howell, MI office. The candidate will manage highly complex medical exposure claims which warrant both medical and legal expertise.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
- Reviews, analyzes, interprets and summarizes medical records and other pertinent documents.
- Manage high exposure chronic pain and highly complex medical cases.
- Provides informed opinion on issues involved with causality, acuity and prognosis of alleged injuries/illnesses.
- Present and consult with both large loss and commercial team PIP adjusters on complex medical cases. Including those in litigation...
- Provide technical support for the PIP & chronic pain management roundtables.
- Assists with the location and selection of medical expert witnesses and consultants.
- Participate in settlement conferences and mediations on assigned cases where causality of injuries is in question.
- Provides individualized training on complex medical cases to the PIP claims team members.
- Develops protocols for investigation and handling of cases involving medical conditions generally associated with high exposure.
- Participates in the development of defense strategies by assisting in the selection of medical experts.
- Preparation of PowerPoint presentations, graphs, etc for presentation at hearings and trials on complex medical claims.
Position Requirements
Knowledge & Skill Required for Essential Job Functions:
- Registered nurse with 3 -5 years of clinical experience in acute or ambulatory healthcare setting with certification or experience in pain management.
- A lawyer or experienced legal nurse consultant with experience managing complex medical claims.
- Knowledge of local and national healthcare information resources
- Strong inquiry and analytical skills
- Technical writing skills
