Citizens Insurance, a member of The Hanover Insurance Group, has several current needs for Small Commercial Accounts Underwriters . These roles have the potential to be located in either our Howell, MI or Southfield, MI office.

The Small Commercial Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting and pricing new and renewal small accounts for an assigned group of agents. In this role you will handle new and renewal accounts under $25K. In addition you will: Quote and document small new business submissions, manage task lists for New Business exceptions, coach agents on how to use our Point of Sale technology, participate actively in branch and team meetings to discuss quality, flow of business and agency management issues, portfolio manage a renewal book and handle endorsement referrals. Underwriters must be able to pro-actively seek additional business from agency assignment. You will also be expected to provide superior customer service within required service guidelines. In this role there is an emphasis on responding quickly and positively to agency phone calls and submissions.
Responsibilities:
- Underwriting new business and renewals that fail automatic/manual bypass process.
- Proactively responding to and contacting agents on new and renewal business, and renewal submissions.
- Working collaboratively with Small Commercial Sales Manager on submissions, competitor benchmarking, customer feedback, risk appetite, and other pertinent underwriting issues.
- Periodic onsite visits with Small Commercial Sales Manager and underwriting team.
- Participate actively in branch and team meetings to discuss quality, flow of business and agency management issues.
- Staying current with branch underwriting strategies related to appetite and pricing increases and assist in strategy execution.
- Guiding agency auditing program as well as manage business mix by using on-line tools, such as PIF pull report.
- Participate in service meetings, training and project work as assigned.
- Computer Skills: MS Office Suite; Exposure to the following internal systems a plus: The Agency Place, CAAMS, Plexus, MMS, POS, PMS, GroupWise.
Position Requirements
- 3-5 years experience in commercial lines underwriting.
- Bachelors Degree preferred
- Committment to customer service
- Ability to work in a fast paced deadline driven environment.
